criteria

I. Thesis or purpose of your siteÑ What do want your audience to learn?

a. Statement of purpose, either explicit on the top page, or implicit but easy for user to determine,  see for example,  http://polyland.lib.calpoly.edu/overview/ThisProject/index.html

b. Everything on the site supports this purpose.

c.Items irrelevant to the thesis or purpose

d.Value and validity of this purpose

2

Index page [gif images now missing] doesnÕt serve its function and overlaps Partnership page, which has essential information and good research, some of which belongs on index page.

Sequence of topics on index page is not coherent

Recipes are irrelevant

Benefits and Drawbacks should be matched on a single page  perhaps in a table.  More support for both sides of  this controversy is needed.

Cal Poly land before partnership is not a well defined or linked topicÑthis probably belongs under the topic of benefits and drawbacks.

4

Organization and focus improved.  But there are still serious problems.  Most notable is redundancy of material on Drawbacks and advantages.  That section is most interesting in terms of your research  and should have been more coherently assembled and highlighted.

II. Integration with Cal Poly Land projectÕs  purposes and design format

2

No good reason for altering colors of fonts or headings.  Justify text to left margins.

Fonts not consistent.

3

Home links should be below others.

Links to subpages need to be distinguished in format from links to parallel pages

Too many pages serving as mere transitions rather being self contained

Good research and focus on the differing perspectives on this project for Cal Poly

III. Extent and Navigation properties

a. Is there enough material to require 5 to 8 minutes for the user to navigate through the site and absorb what it has to offer.

b. Are there clear , consistent, logical and interesting ways to navigate through the site,  for example ÒExplore Cal Poly Land by place or theme or collection using the navigation  bar to the left of every page.  Each of the links there leads to further subdivisionsÓ

2

Not enough materialÑmore onsite  descriptions, photos and maps necessary.  Interviews with faculty and students involved to follow up on the official information by Dean and Mission Avocado would help.  So would more on market conditions of Avocado.  So would more research  private-public partnerships.

Mission produce pages donÕt have enough material to fill each page

PLU sticker not defined where it appears

3.

Mission Produce section subdivisions are not necessary.  The three pages subordinate to it donÕt warrant  a full page each and could all be combined into a single page.

Interviews with Rutherford and Shelton and quotes from Barnard provide good information and contrasting opinions.

ThereÕs still a shortage of material

IV. Quality of Material Presented

a. TextÑclarity, sufficiency, conciseness, elegance, accuracy, including documentation

b. Images or multimedia elements

c. Integrations of text and imagesÑtheir relevance and mutual illumination

2

more images needed.  Every image thatÕs not your own or clip art needs to be credited.  Every significant image needs to be captioned.

Photo on Land Before doesnÕt communicate a point.  Before  should be matched by After in description and graphics.

We need to get together in my office to discuss your progress.  YouÕve got a promising start but a long way to go.

3.5

proofreading still necessary.  Some links still broken
