Family Activities

"The grand essentials of happiness are: something to do, something to love, and something to hope for."
-Allan K. Chalmers

There are many other recreational activities that are available for you on Cal Poly's land. Many of the trails listed in the hiking and biking section can easily turn into an adventurous horseback ride. And since Cal Poly's land is so beautiful,as you can see in the scenic shot above, it offers a wonderful oppurtunity to explore the world of photography. If you are an amateur or a professional, come and explore what Cal Poly's land has to offer.

A picnic lunch is recommended as one activity for the entire family. One picnic facility is available in Poly Canyon located at the entrance to the design village next to the creek. This is the only designated picnic area. Additional sites may be used, but are no tables or trashcans. Be advised that you must keep your area clean and free of trash. Bring a blanket, plenty of water and find a level spot off one of the trails.

Horse canyon is a popular horseback riding destination.
Directions to Horse Canyon:

  • Take Grand Avenue to South Perimeter.
  • Turn right on South Perimeter.
  • Turn right on Via Carta.
  • Follow Via Carta back to the Equine Unit (park in the lot on the left across from the plant shop).
